Bored Of Port And Sherry At Christmas? Try Some Flavoured Vodkas.
Christmas is known as the time of year when families and friends get together to eat and be merry. The same old drinks come out and the port and sherry make their annual appearance.
Whilst the old favourites are perhaps a favourite in your house, why not try something new too and introduce some flavoured vodkas to the festivities.
Vodka isn’t the rough drink that some may think. Depending on the quality of the producer you can buy some really smooth tipples that are good enough for any Christmas dining table. Vodkas are great as a palette cleanser and aperitif or they can be turned into sorbets for desert. Also, if you have to go outside into the cold, a quick short of vodka can feel lovely and warming.
Flavoured vodkas are great drunk on their own or they can be used to make some interesting cocktails. If enjoying neat, bring them up to room temperature to bring out the flavours and aromas. The first taste can be a bit overpowering to the senses because of the alcohol content but with the second you will notice the wonderful flavours. If you want to reduce the alcohol content, add a little water.
There are some interesting flavours around these days and they are all worth a try because they may surprise you. You may find it worthwhile visiting a farmers market or vodka bar to sample different flavours, however, if you know you already love the taste of something, why not go ahead and purchase it in a vodka.
Sloe vodka is really tasty. Unlike sloe gin, the vodka base is not as strong so the taste of the sloes comes through better which gives a sweet, fruity drink with almond and cherry flavours. For a longer drink, try it mixed with orange juice and a little zest. It’s a wonderful Christmas taste.
Rhubarb vodka is a must if you like rhubarb. Add champagne or sparkling wine for a fun fizz.
For something more floral, try elderflower. Elderflower is very distinctive with a fresh and exciting taste. It tastes good with sharp lemon juice and soda too.
For the more adventurous, try chilli. Chilli vodka is ideal for warming you up! The heat from the chilli and the alcohol will be sure to make you feel warmer! It’s surprisingly nice and is great with lemonade.
With Christmas nearly here, get sampling new drink flavours and experimenting with mixing them for some fun cocktails. Who said Christmas drinks are boring…
